One may say Ray’s Cakes is a product of the American dream. However, it exists thanks to the passion and baking expertise of one woman – Raymonde Marcel. You’ll come to know her as Miss Ray, just as everyone in the community she’s been serving since the late 80s has.
When Miss Ray left Haiti and arrived in New York at 18 years old, she didn’t have a vision for the basis of Ray’s Cakes. Even when she made her first moist and delicious cake for her daughter’s birthday, she never expected family, friends, and neighbors to start talking about the delectable desserts.
Even after moving to Miami in 1988, the legacy of her flavorful rum cakes, a Haitian delicacy followed. Miss Ray may have initially pursued a career in banking, but the demand for her special recipe cakes – and her cooking – became impossible to ignore. If you were having an event in the Miami area, you turned to Miss Ray’s one-stop-shop. With the help of the community that knew, trusted, and loved her, Miss Ray helped make celebrations memorable.
